System Requirements

The full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.1 (or later) is required to use .nki instrument presets included with these libraries. The free Kontakt Player doesn't support this format. However, all sample directories are fully unlocked accessible to allow user customization. The wav samples can be used with other wav compatible software, sampler or synth formats. Also be aware that the special Libraries tab doesn't support these open-format Kontakt libraries, but you can use the standard File browser tab, or you can import these libraries into the Kontakt database and Quickload window for easy preset browsing and organization. Windows 7 or higher is required for PC. OSX 10.7 or higher is required for Mac. Dual Core CPU, 3 GB System Ram, SATA or SSD hard drive recommended for the libraries in this collection.

Note: This digital product is delivered as a download via the Amazon S3 cloud network. A broadband internet connection is required. Please see our Help Page for licensing information, download and installation instructions, tutorials and to read our End User Licensing Agreement before ordering. All sales are final.

Welcome to Ambius 1: Transmissions! This massive collection of ambiences, drones, pads and evolving “synth” leads were created by hand. Everything you hear was built using only organic field and instrument recordings. In fact, no synthesizers were used in the creation of this library at all. We used a variety of custom techniques to blend, warp, shape and layer the sounds of the known into the very unknown. The instruments you’ll find in this collection range from simple, clean, tonal leads to compound, constantly moving soundscapes and textures.

In this first volume of our Ambius series, we focus on the dark, the cryptic, the unnatural and the subliminal, in the form of strange unholy transmissions filtering through the void. You’ll find an archive of EVP recordings engineered by the dead, earwitness accounts of unholy medical procedures, insidious swarms of poisonous insects, terror winds speaking with voices of pure and ancient decay and bio-mechanical devices worming through primordial pools of seething logic. You will marvel in the sweeping glory of infinite choruses and spin endlessly soaring melodies from our cluster bells. And then you will fall helplessly into the blackened ash pits, where sleeping phantasms wait for the wet crack of your bones breaking on impact and the sour hiss of gaseous spectral vapors that seep in to dissolve your earthly flesh.

Originally released by Tonehammer in 2009, our new version 2.0 has been redesigned with a new GUI and a huge range of interactive features. It now features tempo-locked filtering and LFO based parameter automation. A pair of 32-beat step-sequencer graphs let you freely draw resonance and cutoff values from one step to the next, with time divisions from whole notes to 128ths. Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass and Vowel filter types are included.

Parameter changes are smoothed to prevent ugly zippering, but with the ability to dial in ultra-tiny time-signature divisions and extreme filter settings, you can get as gnarly and screeching or warm and mellow as your heart desires. You can also assign just about any parameter to each step sequencer table with the simple right-click/cmd-click learn function whenever that table is running. You can even skip the filter stage and simply use it for tempo-synced CC parameter control by choosing the “Thru” filter type or bypass the whole system instantly with the LFO Pause and do your filter tweaking and sweeping by hand.

Also included are a tempo-syncing tremolo, full EQ tone controls, our custom convolution reverb loaded with dozens of spaces and special FX and of course, our ever advancing Uberpeggiator meta-arpeggiation system. The dual-layer sustaining ambient presets also feature simulated polyphonic legato with polyphony, bend, speed and range control. A full gamut of preset types are included: special cutting edge Kontakt 5 presets allow step sequencer and uberpeggiator table graph preset saving/loading and the latest filter options, classic Kontakt 4-friendly presets with classic filter types and resource efficient lite presets that save ram and CPU resources without the filter LFOs or a deep offset range.

Ambius 2: Systematik represents a huge new step forward in our quest to build a truly flexible and adaptive sample based atmospheric synth. We wanted a broad collection of richly nuanced flavors with the ability to freely layer, blend and reshape a wide mix of percussive, tonal and textural elements into custom multi-layered dynamic and evolving instruments. We wanted a unified and powerful interface to combine detailed performance and tone shaping controls with a wide pallet of experimental and environmental convolution effects. We wanted a built-in tempo-locking step-sequenced filter and LFO engine that could be adapted to just about any other GUI control parameter on the fly without missing a beat. Ambius 2 is all of that and much more.

One of the driving forces behind the development of our second atmospheric synth collection was the desire for a fresh sound based on real organic recordings that was both super flexible for those of us who like to knob tweak and yet still easy to dive into for those who want it to sound great right out of the box with minimal fuss. It allows you to blur the line between lead and ambient textures and just as easily morph between tight, tuned percussive and smooth, dreamy pads. We've created a deep pool of elements to choose from and shape, with a wide palette of sonic flavors ranging from fat lo-fi leads to crisp, complex hi-fi soundscapes. All of the sounds we created for Ambius 2 were sourced from live acoustic instruments and hand-sculpted individually into unique and fully customizable playable concepts.

The foundation of Ambius 2 is in the layer building concept, which allows you to combine a range of tuned percussive attack samples with a broad variety of richly detailed sustaining pads and leads. Each layer is equipped with independent core parameter control and can be swapped out on the fly through the GUI or with CC/host automation so your instrument can evolve with the music. We then take it a step farther with the Instrument Designer concept, with 6 independent hand-picked layers that absolutely blow the creative possibility wide open. Each layer can be freely blended and warped with different tonal, shape and dynamic behaviors that allow your sound to radically transform itself based totally on the way you play.

In order to transform Ambius 2 into a rhythmic monster, we engineered an entirely new and proprietary way to provided tempo-locked filtering and LFO based parameter automation.

Also included are a free/syncable tremolo, full EQ tone controls, our custom convolution reverb loaded with dozens of spaces and special FX and of course, our ever advancing Uberpeggiator meta-arpeggiation system.

It is a celebration of every day objects and sounds transforming into strange and compelling new musical instruments. Originally published by Tonehammer in 2008, the Antidrum 1 instruments range from heavy work boot stomps to water cooler thwacks, clicking baby toys, red rubber playground balls, hand-slapped ukulele and guitar "drums", shock mount bass thumps, clapping ensembles, nail gun shots, shouts, drum circle strikes and so much more. Some instruments are recorded in ensemble, while others are captured solo. We recorded many of the sounds in our favorite hall, while others were recorded in the wild, out in real-world environments.

Welcome to Soundiron's Cathedral of Junk! Austin, Texas is an odd place. So odd in fact, that “Keep Austin Wierd” is virtually the officially recognized slogan of the city itself. The place is packed full of artists and art, musicians and the instruments behind them. In fact, there’s a shop on 6th St, at the heart of downtown Austin, where you can buy a guitar-shaped toilet seat, complete with sunburst finish. Among the strange are many really interesting and creative people, each exploring and giving back in their own way. Sometimes a guy just wants to build a towering castle of steel, plastic, glass and all manner of other glorious scraps that modern progress and consumption has wrought in his own backyard for over 20 years. And sometimes a guy has to fight for the right to keep what he’s built when the powers that be come along and tell him to tear it all down. Meet Vince Hannemann, the “Junk King”, and welcome to his amazing Cathedral of Junk.

Located in the South Congress area of Austin, Vince’s Cathedral of Junk rises at least 30 feet into the sky amongst the towering trees in his backyard and probably weighs in at well over 50 tons up to three stories tall. The entire structure is built from a mind-blowing collection of old TVs, car parts, machinery, building materials, appliances and an endless host of scrap, parts, objects, toys and stuff, from commonplace and identifiable to inexplicable and perplexing. In an epic tail of defiance and grit, the local government tried repeatedly to close him down and force him to tear down and haul away the Cathedral, but he refused to back down. After a few years, a few lawyers and some seriously fierce tenacity, Vince prevailed and acquired a proper building permit and with it, the bona fide right to keep on building ever onward and upward.

We met up with a few local friends for a little field trip and picked, pulled and prodded the structure to find a few dozen unique objects and surfaces to bash some cool sounds out of with drumsticks. This library includes playable multisample instruments of the coolest and most musical oddities we found, edited and programmed with precision for maximum playability and musicality. It covers everything from old cymbals and refrigerators to saw blades and artificial legs, but tried to focus on tonal instruments to provide a broad new palette of expressive tuned percussion. The end result is a grand scrap orchestra, and a fitting tribute to the The Junk King’s Cathedral of Junk.

This library was originally published in 2011 by Tonehammer.

Fountain Wires is a unique experimental stringed, tuned percussion and ambient/FX library born of pure chance. During a recent exploration to the California Southland, with it’s sun-baked chrome, glass, plastic and steel landscape and high-octane energy, we happened across a cool piece of ordinary architecture with some very cool sonic potential - a shady fountain sanctuary ringed by tightly strung steel cable fencing, hidden in the midst of Hollywood’s grit. We pulled out our trusty field recording gear and a heavy guitar pick and set to work, sampling a wide range of different wires, each with it’s own tone and character. The bass-heavy, full-sounding resonance of each cable mixed with the peaceful white noise drone of the fountains surrounding us to produce a rather beautiful and curious result. We then took the raw material back to our studio, pulled it apart and wound it all back together into a unique experimental instrument toolkit. Our goal with this library was to combine authentic field-recorded muso-environmental sounds and specialized sound design techniques to craft a playable and inspiring soundset that brings together the best of both the acoustic and synthetic audio worlds.

This 853 MB library includes the original plucked articulations as they sounded up close and direct, as well as manipulated articulations that provide punchy lead instruments, distorted guitar-like tones, undulating soundscapes, complex organ and e-piano-like elements, thumping bass notes and a wide variety of other very musical and deeply useful creative content. All of it is wrapped up in a customizable performance control system, with lots of soundshaping tools, arpeggiation sequencing and flexible DSP effects. This library is perfect for chillwave, new wave, EDM, glitch, post rock, soundtrack, downtempo, dub, ambient music, general sound design and any situation that calls for conceptually familiar and yet slightly off-kilter sonic source material.

The library is programmed for Native Instruments Kontakt 5.1 and later and comes fully-equipped with a custom user interface that provides real-time automation control over note attack, sample start position offset, intensity swelling, release fade time, tuning and dual sonic layer blending. Each sound layer is fully independent and has its own control set so users can pitch, pan, swell and attenuate each one separately. Fountain Wires also features our powerful integrated "Uberpeggiator" arpeggiation system which allows to total customization and full preset saving and loading. We also included our full FX Rack which has an integrated EQ, convolution reverb selector, compressor, distortion, delay and much more. All of the samples are also included as categorized and clearly named stereo wave files that can be imported and used in any wav-format compatible audio environment, sampler, editor, sequencer or other audio software you like.

Our Kazoo library was created with the help of a world-class kazoo ensemble, featuring some of the finest hand-crafted wax paper and plastic wind instruments that money can buy. Kazoo is recognized as the very pinnacle of human musical instrument engineering, with a sound as renowned for its subtlety as it is for its noble majesty. We gathered together four of the finest kazoo virtuosos in the world to capture this power ensemble collection. We recorded this brilliant sample set in our own private studios, using a wide stereo pair of large diaphragm Neumann microphones to achieve brilliant tone and fidelity.

This library includes features such as delicate automation control, 4X round robin on all sustains and 4X round robin on all release triggers to give it a truly human feel, along with advanced programming and playability and special custom instruments that feature our life-like hall acoustic simulation technology. For solo kazoo patches, we recorded each and every semitone from G#2 – D4, with three independent levels of expression, from steady, to vibrato and all the way up to full tremolo. Each note is continuously looping, with an average loop length of over ten seconds. All notes feature release-triggered samples. The ensemble patches are the shear essence of power. Legato scripting for commanding leads and driving melody lines, with tight programming to allow a strident, confident and virtuosic playing style. You'll also find a bonus ragtime style male vocal ensemble to serve as an accompaniment to the exquisite sounds of the kazoo. This instrument uses our own custom epic hall reverb convolution to elevate the sound to brilliantly soaring heights. Originally released by Tonehammer as part of the Microhammer series in 2009, we feel this is easily the most powerful professional-grade kazoo ensemble library available anywhere in the world.

Welcome to Souniron's Laundronium The idea of the washing machine as a piece of musical equipment, while not unheard of, has been fairly limited in its scope. Generally you'll see the white cube playing a rudimentary spin cycle beat behind a mediocre guitarist who is only vaguely aware of the naturally occurring music which is constantly present in our modern human environment. The washing machine will play this beat dutifully, knowing that it isn't respected for musical talent like its ancestor the washboard. We spend so much less time with the modern washing machine, than the folks of previous generations did with the washboard, that we've become coldly detached from it. The washing machine happily does all the work, never complaining, and still we complain about laundry day. If we just took a little time to talk to our washing machines we may find out that they are treasure troves of musical potential.

The broad variety percussion instruments we've given you represent a fair cross-section of the breadth of its acoustic capabilities, with everything from soft, gong-like, harsh, warbly, trashy, tight, muted, dreamy, bassy, to warm and sweet tones.

We also bowed various edges and surfaces to produce strong resonant metallic and screeching tones as well. We've also included a huge range of of our signature multilayered special effects, drones and ambient soundscapes, with advanced tone-shaping and FX control features. The myriad sounds and textures must simply be heard to be believed.

Last, but not least, we figured we had to go the distance and cover a wide range of traditional washing machine sound effects from a full wash cycle, recording up close in wide stereo. I don't know about your washing machine, but ours from the freakin' future. You could pretty much do up the sound design for an entire sci-fi film with this puppy alone.

All presets are arranged both as tuned and untuned percussion, with mode switching at the push of a button. We've also built our remarkably flexible Überpeggiator into nearly every preset, along with a range of automatize sound-shaping knobs and do-dads. There are also a range of texturally rich bowed articulations (yes, we strung up a washing machine), with round-robin staccato and long sustains with release. This library was originally released in 2011 by Tonehammer.

Welcome to Luminabells! Designed to perform a million tasks, in a millions different shapes and sizes, the incandescent lightbulb illuminated human existence and enabled the world to finally and truly find its way out of the dark. Over the generations, this old filament-syle lightbulb and the various offspring have served humanity well. Indeed, the very concept of a brilliant idea is most often signified by this single iconic image.

However, as populations have explode and resources ever diminish, that brilliance is becoming a luxury we’re no longer able to afford. The grave inefficiencies of Edison’s incandescent bulb have at long last forced us to move toward Tesla’s far superior fluorescent design, with its vastly longer life and lower energy consumption, heat output and fire danger. Yes, the incandescent puts out warmer, more pleasing light than most current fluorescents. But at what cost? Just like their vacuum tube cousins, as beautifully as they perform, these too will soon be a rare anachronism sought by the purist, but long forgotten by the masses.

The fragile and inherently musical bell-like aspect of the old incandescent bulb has always fascinated us and we knew that time was running out for this poor little device. That is why we must now bring you Luminabells – the mysterious and angelic essence of the simple ordinary light bulb, captured as a tiny, starry galaxy of humble and yet beautiful sounds. We recorded all manner of sizes and shapes of the old filament style incandescent bulb, lovingly sculpted into a rich collection of tuned and un-tuned percussion, sustaining melodic tones and otherworldly effects.

We recorded a number of different sizes and shapes of bulbs, using a variety of playing articulations to explore the sonic potential of each one. We tapped with fingers, palms, sticks, mallets, other bulbs and other implements, focusing on each timbre and tone that we could bring out of each lightbulb. We paid special attention to vibrating the unique filament in each one as much as possible without breaking it or the glass bulb itself.

The sound recorded for this library were all very quiet, produced by often very small and usually very fragile glass bulbs. In order to amplify many of these musical sounds up to usable levels, some low frequency rumble and high frequency hiss has also been unavoidably boosted. We’ve left these impurities in place deliberately, rather than filtering them out, in order to both preserve the most delicate aspects of these sounds and to broaden the creative potential in these sounds. and allow those impurities to become added complexity and flavor. This library was originally released by Tonehammer in 2011.

M1 Garand is an experimental hybrid percussion/sfx instrument designed for professional sound designers, composers, re-recording mixers and music producers. It combines the real-time playability, musicality and control of a virtual instrument with the accessibility and flexibility of a classic professional-grade sound effect library, delivered in a convenient a la cart package for easy download and integration into your workflow. The first in our Fireams series, the Soundiron SFX M1 Garand Rifle library focuses exclusively on this classic and widely used WWII military weapon, and includes the most essential sound effect elements that it produces, from 30-06 caliber gunshots (indoor /outdoor) and brass bounces on two common surfaces to a whole spectrum of mechanical M1 reloading, trigger, handling and firing action sounds. This library is designed to be your M1-in-a-Box, with everything you need in one easy solution. However, since it's recorded in a dry, neutral environment, its ready for easy mixing with other sound libraries. And as always, we explore each sound effect category in great depth, to provide an organic, non-repetitive and lifelike result that is especially ideal for video game sound design and film audio post production, or for use in more unorthodox applications, such as concert percussion. While the sounds are authentic and specific to their source for those doing period work, they can easily be manipulated and employed in any number of other ways.

The .30 Caliber M1 Garand rifle is a classic military firearm that was widely used by the United States during World War II and throughout the mid 20th century. Invented by Canadian-born John Cantius Garand, it was the first semi-automatic infantry rifle fielded widely by any nation and served as the primary infantry weapon for the US and a number of it's allies throughout the war. Primarily chambered for a .30-06 Springfield cartridge (often called “30-aught-six”), with some chambered for .308 Winchester rounds. The rifle had an internal magazine that was loaded with an En-bloc clip, most likely leading to the popularization of the improper term “clip” being applied to any detachable magazine. The slide mechanism is also well known for its tenancy to smash the thumb of the operator during reloading, requiring special care to ride the bolt forward after the clip is inserted. Following WWII, the rifle continued to see service in both the United States military and in the armed forces of a number of nations around the world well into the late 60s and 70s, with a number of regional and specialized variants, until finally being phased out in favor of the M14 carbine and M16 rifle. The M1 is still used by USMC drill teams to this day.

Our library focuses on a .30-06 Garand and covers a full kit of associated sounds, including indoor and outdoor gunshots, spent brass bouncing on concrete and wooden surfaces, weapon shaking, movement and handling sounds and a full spectrum of important and useful mechanical action, loading, trigger, safety and other functional sounds produced by the common battlefield use (and abuse) of this weapon.

We've included 450 individual M1 Garand sound effects and segments, with individual presets for each category, as well as a master construction preset that includes all of the key sound elements in a single sound bank, with built-in auto-variation (round-robin) where appropriate.

Once you begin manipulating the pitch, tone, start position and other performance parameters and start applying our built-in convolution effects or any of your own, these classic and rather menacing mechanical wood and metal clicks, clunks, rattles, scrapes, rings, snaps and creaks can also become endlessly handy as raw and versatile sonic paint that can be applied to any number of common and uncommon aesthetics and themes, from sci fi to horror.

This library is specially designed to facilitate detailed, nuanced and high quality live Foley performances using the Native Instruments Kontakt sampler platform in any VST, AU or RTAS compatible and midi capable host sequencer. This special adaptation allows sound designers to become Foley artists and perform live to picture. It can also allow rapid iteration and implementation on the fly and it can bring whole new levels of personal artistry, improvisation and inspiration into your work. On the other hand, if you don't have Kontakt, no problem! You can use this library as a standard wav-based sfx library or manually convert and import it into any other sampler format you prefer.

Special thanks to the Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry, Austin, Texas, for allowing us to photograph one of their historic pieces.

Glass Beach about 150 miles outside San Francisco, CA, is all that's left of a former garbage dump. For decades, the townspeople brought their household and industrial trash to the sea, dumping into towering piles rising above the surf. We spoke to a lifelong resident, who told us the heaps grew to over 30 feet high, before “The Dumps” were finally shut down in 1967. After numerous clean-up efforts, all of the refuse was removed, save for the tons of broken glass shards that were too small and far to plentiful to remove. It can now be found in MacKerricher State Park, running along the beach, by an old abandoned saw mill complex.

Once a ecological disaster and obvious hazard, the beach is now a remarkable example of natures resilience when we clean up our mess a bit and try to leave things alone. Over the years, the crashing waves and abrasive sand has worn all of those millions of glass fragments into perfectly smooth translucent glass pebbles and beads in every color of the rainbow - but mostly clear, brown or green. Yay beer!

From a sonic perspective, the millions of glass beads shifting and tumbling in the gentle surf create a remarkable effect. The sound is not unlike that of ice chips or slush on the shore of a thawing lake, but on a grander scale. The distant mournful wails of fog horns and sea birds casts an eerily serene hue over the sound-scape and the cliffs suppress most of the encroaching highway and city noise. As a whole-body sensory experience, it was well worth the long trip.

We captured several ocean surf and tide pool ambiances, as well as gentle waterfalls trickling through narrow caves and gullies running down toward the beach from the cliffs above. There's also useful foley included, with footsteps that can be cut and re-purposed for sand, gravel and even gritty snow in a pinch. We also created a wide variety of tiny percussive elements, using some of the sea glass that migrated to other nearby beaches. Lastly, we used various sound-design tricks to morph the sounds from our journey into tonal and dissonant pads, synth-tones, ambient dreamscapes and disturbing hellscapes.
