System Requirements

The full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt version 5.1.0 (or later) is required to use .nki instrument presets included in these libraries. These are all standard Kontakt open-format libraries, so the free Kontakt Player doesn't support them. However, the sample directories are all fully unlocked, uncompressed and completely accessible to allow user customization, import and mapping in other wav compatible software, sampler or synth formats. Also be aware that the special Libraries tab doesn't support these open-format Kontakt libraries, but you can use the standard File browser tab, or you can import these libraries into the Kontakt database and Quickload window for easy navigation and organization. Windows 7 or higher is required for PC. OSX 10.7 or higher is required for Mac. Dual Core CPU, 3 GB System Ram, SATA or SSD hard drive recommended for the libraries in this collection.

Note: This digital product is delivered as a download via the Amazon S3 cloud network. A broadband internet connection is required. Please see our Help Page for licensing information, download and installation instructions, tutorials and to read our End User Licensing Agreement before ordering. All sales are final.

Breaker is all about the breakbeat, DIY-style. This hi-fi/lo-fi old/new school bastard was born to be broken, bruised, smashed, pumped, slammed, smeared, blown-out and beat to hell. We set out to find the essence of classic versus iconoclastic. We set out to build a big, fat and extremely diverse drum palette that evoked an equal blend of warm, smooth 70's funk and cold, hard 80s electro and pop. Our aim was to make a drum library that is truly electro-organic: authentic and yet electronic in sound but organically playable, providing the best of both worlds.

The sound is ripe to be chopped, diced, sliced, flipped, trashed, drilled, derezzed, degraded and granulated. It's geared toward hip hop, electro, soul, funk, pop, breakcore, drum n' bass, garage, dub, techno, glitch, 2-step, trip hop, illbient, dub-step, house, and whatever the hell have you. We designed the sound to take digital, tape and tube distortion and FX of all kinds and soak it all right up. The sound is fat, dirty and raw right out of the boombox, but a twist of a knob or two and you've got a searing, brutally crisp sharp jungle kit ready to go.

We also included over 40 custom FX presets using the power of Kontakt and our custom scripting and user interface controls. These FX presets, which include a range of lead, pad and bass synth sustains, allowing you to build entire tracks from the ground-up with Breaker.

First, we captured a huge collection of over 80 pristine multi-sampled drum kit and auxiliary percussion elements, all bone dry and up close, with 8 velocity layers per note. Then we multitracked and re-sampled them, stacked tightly and a dozen layers deep, to grab a ridiculously tight, rich, aggressive and punchy tone and an ultra-wide, vibrant stereo field. Then we piped them through old analog signal paths, to induce a little crud and mild generation loss, with a generous helping of extra gain, pushing the sound straight over the edge into a fat, saturated, tonal beast. This balance of dynamic/organic versus control and precision allows fully nuanced and articulate grooves and syncopated rapid-fire poly-rhythms.

Breaker is the first library to include a preset that combines two of our popular features: the well-known Uberpeggiator and our newest pride and joy - The Mega-Mixer - to allow custom kit creation and ease-of-use. The UI has been streamlined, with everything you need right at your fingertips, including tempo-synced pitch, amplitude and resonant lowpass filter LFOs with envelope shaping, along with 3-band EQ and Convolution controls right on the front panel.

The theme and purpose of Clack! is pretty simple. We wanted to capture as much sharp, bright, warm, tonal wooden impact percussion as your heart desires. We captured several bamboo poles, bamboo logs, a whole pile of claves, woodblocks, clappers, box drum, and other assorted wooden implements that epitomize the word "thwack." These elements are specifically ideal auxiliary elements for orchestral composition and epic film/tv/game soundtrack scoring. They also are vital elements in Latin music and hip hop, as well as very useful percussion building-blocks and raw source material for experimental music and IDM.

We recorded all of these sets up-close and 90% dry, in a medium-sized hardwood and masonry percussion studio, providing just the right amount of body and liveliness. All presets include a Release knob to allow you to dial in just the right amount of room you need. All instruments were captured with 10 round-robins per velocity layer, with an average of 6 velocity layers per note. The modwheel controls the tightness of room decay in all patches that don't use the modwheel for other purposes, such as cross-fading or swapping between layers. Any patch that has "mw" appended to the nki filename also uses the modwheel for a special function.

Clack! includes a complete set of custom controls to dial in sounds like never before. By adjusting the attack, you can round out an articulation to a soft, swelling sound. Use the offset feature and cut into the sample removing the harsh transient altogether. Adjust the Release knob to cut the sample down to a mere fraction of a second. All articulations are velocity sensitive and you can use the Swell knob to further sculpt the volume. Each articulation has been tuned to it's dominant frequency and chromatically spread out across the keys allowing this library to serve as both percussion and melody. The stepping knob provides pitch-shifting of ±48 semitones with optional key-switching for ±12 semitones.

Our Tone / FX controls give you access to a number of effects to shape the sounds further. The 3-band EQ gives you ±18db of Low, Mid and High with a fully adjustable Mid Freq. sweep from 20Hz to 20kHz. Other effects include Lo-Fi with adjustable bit-depth and sampling frequency, Flanger, Rotator, Pro-53 Filter, Delay with tempo-synch, Convolution Reverb and a Stereo Modeller. The Uberpeggiator is another powerful feature included in most Percussion and FX patches. It's an advanced arpeggiator allowing control over tempo-synched rhythm timing, number of hits, swing, repeat, pitch, scale and a full 16-step velocity table.

We also included 9 unique sets of ambient drones as a bonus. We created them entirely from the original Clack sample source material, using special sound design techniques. These multi-layered sound-scapes utilize the modhweel to allow you to sculpt and morph these ambiences very expressively. The rich flavors of these custom drones range from bright and orchestral, to choral, to thunderous, to quite dark and gritty.

Cymbology is a massive percussion effects library built around bowed cymbals and gongs. We captured 20 unique cymbals, in all shapes, sizes, alloys and varieties, from crashes and splashes to gongs, bells, trashes and even a stack of spent WWII Howitzer artillery shells. We explore the classic bowed cymbal effect in exquisite detail, with dozens of variations for each cymbal, from short stabs to long tortured wails and everything in between. These often sought-after dramatic scoring and sound design fundamentals are perfect for setting dark moods, striking bold transitions, building stingers, weaving soundscapes and manipulating in any number of ways to evoke sonic images both dark and light.

Not content to leave it there, we experiment with dry ice on the cymbal surfaces. The results are just as wildly varied as the bowed articulations, but these squeals, hisses, screeches, drones, screams, rumbles and wails are an entirely different flavor. We recorded both sets of sustaining and short cymbal effects in two wide microphone positions, up close for full detail, presence and clarity without room coloration and out in a large hall, for a rich, lush and naturally spacious reverb ideal for epic and orchestral scoring.

Next, we created a collection of extraordinary melodic tuned percussion instruments from the most tonally pure and musical raw material within the library. Each tuned percussion preset has a unique and complex sound, with flowing overtones, broad warmth, clear highs and massive low end, with flavors ranging from darkly harmonic to pure and crystalline. Lastly, we designed over 1 GB of ambient instruments. You'll find a spectacular array of pads, drones, synths, swirling dreamscapes, nightmarish hellscapes and complex evolving textures.

We've programmed the library with obsessive attention to detail and unmatched playability. You'll find our usual front panel controls with full automation support on all critical parameters, plus multi-effects chain controls and our custom convolution reverb system. The tuned percussion presets include our powerful Uberpeggiator system and several of the ambience presets also include our dual-layer selection and real-time cross-fading system to allow an endless range of creative possibilities.

We've also included our Multi-Flo LFO control matrix, with independent pitch, volume and pan LFOs with rate and depth control for each, as well as 3 filter modes. All 6 modules can be run and tweaked simultaneously and independently. Try out our new Multi-Layer-Builder Utility, allowing you to import up to 3 different cymbal sets on the fly and assign them to independently movable and blend-able key-ranges, with real-time pitch and volume controls for each layer. You'll also find Time-Stretch and Lite versions of all core bowed and frozen cymbal presets.

Our Dohl Drum library contains over 5,100 samples and more than 100 articulations, played with sticks, mallets, brushes, hands, fingers, palms and more, all recorded in extraordinary detail in a close, dry studio setting. We deep sampled two professional Punjabi Dhol Drums for this library, each with distinct characteristics and tuning. These drums have animal hide bass heads (called “dagga”) and maylar treble heads (called “thili”). They dagga sides are tuned with a single heavy nylon rope, wound around the drum through steel rings. The thili heads are tuned with a series of steel lugs and rods, typical of most modern percussion.

We like to refer to the thili as “snare” and dagga as “bass”, since they sound and function in much the same way snare and bass drums are used in western music. Also, we don't like to do anything in the usual way, because we're a pack of weirdos. The thili sound ranges from that of roto-toms or smaller timables to nasty, abrasive, grainy and thrashing snare-like sounds, depending on the drum size, turning, mallet type, strike position and playing style. The dagga heads range from a bayan-like water drip to a taiko-like boom-crack. We beat the hell out of our Dhol, to push the sound as far as we could take it. For this deeper dry- and close-mic recorded collection, we used a wide variety of sticks, mallets, brushes and hand articulations, as well as unique tunings, to explore the widest possible range of sounds that these instrument were capable of. We recorded every single note with a full 10 round-robin variations and up to 14 velocity layers. The end-result is the deepest sampled Dhol in the history of sampling allowing you to make completely audio-realistic dhol grooves.

We sampled each articulation with up to 14 velocity layers and 10 round robin per note. For the hand articulations, we've also included a set of nearly 40 tabla-like bass bends from slow to fast with 10 round robin each. These bends are a unique contrast to the bends in our traditional Tablas library, producing a much deeper low end.

You'll also enjoy a set of special presets with pre-loaded custom convolution reverb impulses recreating different acoustic spaces. We've divided these patches into three main types, "all master" which includes all articulations, "combo hands" including all hand articulations and "combo mallets" which includes all mallet articulations. For each of these three articulation types we've included five separate patches each with a distinct convolution. These convolutions are "bunker", "garage", "hall", "stairwell" and "valley". This library was originally released by Tonehammer in 2010.

High School Drum Corps is a multi-sample drum library focused on capturing the powerful, tight sound of small marching band drum line. There’s a certain unique punch to those hard mid-tones with that truncated dry snap of marching snares and bass drums. It’s quite distinct from the solid, pleasing punch and smooth resonance of typical rock, jazz and symphonic percussion. These drums are meant to be heard loud and clear from a great distance, delivered with the staccato snap of a military formation.

Mike was a marching percussionist back in his youth. To capture this library, he returned to his old alma mater many years later to capture the feeling and sound of playing in a small marching drum corps live and in the flesh Our goal was not simply to capture the sound of watching the band from the bleachers, but to put you right there in the drum line yourself, all the way from the rehearsal hall to out onto the field on game day. Our goal was not simply to capture the sound of watching from the bleachers, but to put you right there in the drum line yourself.

To do that, we recorded the drum line in both a large indoor band hall and an open-air outdoor football field environments to provide you more freedom and really put you right in the action. The hall has a live room wetness, while the field position has a much drier sound, with a subtle echo and natural environmental background. The indoor version was recorded in a wood, tile and fabric surfaced band rehearsal hall. The outdoor recordings were done on the stadium field, so there are occasional stray sonic elements buried in the sound from the outside world. We’ve also done some live marching bands and parade ambiences to really put you into the action when a bit of sound design is called for. This library has all the flavor and verve of a classic high school marching band drum line, with plenty of pop, crack, whump and boom to bring a little more life into your tracks.

There are 2 Marching snares, and 5 tuned marching bass drums (20″ – 36″) for the field recordings, along with quads in the indoor and outdoor ensemble strikes and rim clacks. The indoor recordings feature the same snares and a large 48” concert bass drum which has been in continuous use by the band for over 30 years. The head of the concert bass drum is made of cow hide and it’s played with a large, soft cloth and felt mallet, providing a deeply massive sub-sonic boom. For the full drum line there are flam and rim strike articulations with all instruments playing in unison (snare, bass drums, quads).

Our custom UI for Kontakt provides custom ensemble building, note release control, a variety of different environmental convolution impulses and lots of other tone shaping features, providing you the freedom to sculpt your own performance. The powerful Megamixer interface lets you to create custom ensembles with up to 12 drums, with individual key-mapping, tuning, panning, release control, shaping and mixing and dynamic sample loading for optimal resource use. It also includes a specialized version of our Uberpeggiator arp system, with our intuitive "EZ-Roll" mode to generate dynamic bpm-based single-stroke rolls and flams, with velocity swelling, humanization control and much more.

Little Epic Percussion is a great collection of small orchestral and ethnic hand percussion instruments was designed to compliment our existing collection of "epic" hall scoring drums and percussion, yet it also stands alone as a unique toolbox of punchy, powerful and often needed instruments, like the tambourine and Turkish finger cymbals. We not only went out of our way to capture these instruments as deeply as we could muster, but tried as much as possible to discover new ways of thinking about and playing them. You may notice some unorthodox articulations included with some of the instruments, as well as a few strange combinations and mutations that take the sound in whole new creative directions.

Little Epic Percussion includes instruments such as tambourine, finger cymbals, concert triangle, ship's bell, wooden frogs, monkey drum, native american rabbit drum, and a slew of mixed ensemble percussion featuring claves, kalimba, rattles, shakers, vibraslap, bells, etc. All of these were recorded in our signature epic hall to bring out the full tone of all the instruments. It’s an advanced arpeggiator allowing control over tempo-synched rhythm timing, number of hits, swing, repeat, pitch, scale and a full 16-step velocity table.

This library was originally published in 2009 by Tonehammer. For the version 2.0 upgrade, we improved key-mapping and overall playability, added a full set of brand new automatable performance, effect and arpeggiator controls and refined the overall experience.

Welcome to the Riq Drum! The traditional family of Middle Eastern (Arabic) hand percussion instruments is generally defined as an open shell frame drum with large cymbals or jingles – aka Riq Drums. It is similar in appearance and origin to a tambourine, but this broad family of specialized drums is treated as a very serious and deeply nuanced instrument class in both traditional and modern Middle Eastern, Central Asian and Eastern European music. Rather than simply being an accompaniment or backing instrument, the Rik family of drums can often take a lead or solo role. The jingles, rattles or rings are often played as a discreet component of the drum, along with a broad range of unique head and rim finger and hand articulations.

For our Riq Drum multi-sample library, we captured a pair of full-sized drums, one larger 15-inch “daf” drum from Greece with metal rings and bearings (actually called a daf) and one smaller 13” riq drum from Egypt with wide tin “cymbals”. We also captured a toy frame drum that we’ve modified into a miniature riq, by adding a series of rattles. We’ve also included a very large collection of ambient droning and “synth” percussion instruments, created entirely through heavily manipulating the source recordings for this library.

Rather than simply being an accompaniment or backing instrument, the Rik family of drums can often take a lead or solo role. The jingles, rattles or rings are often played as a discreet component of the drum, along with a broad range of unique head and rim finger and hand articulations.

The riq has a goat-skinn head, with large 3” tin rattles set in a thick wooden frame. It has a tight, pronounced tom-like sound, with a very metallic clatter and clack. The daf has a sheep's gut skin, instead of rawhide. Rather than large finger cymbal-like jingles like the smaller riq, our daf uses metal rings and balls to create a thinner, smoother buzzing rattle. The baby riq is a little 4” plastic framedrum instrument that we've modified with small rattles.

*This library was originally published as “Riq Drum” by Tonehammer.

Welcome to the Shake library! This deep sampled collection is dedicated to shakers, rattles and bell tree percussion. The fuzzy, buzzy, sandy-sounding “chuff”, “shuck” and “jingle” of hand-held shakers and bells is an essential part of orchestral, latin, electronic, hip hop and even rock music.

We found, collected and even hand-made 14 different instruments for this library, covering the whole spectrum of shaker instruments. We included deep sampled strikes and shakes for custom rhythm creation. We also captured sustaining rolls, grooves and gliss effects, in both natural and host-tempo synching arrangements. We also included a bonus collection of ambient drones and percussive elements created by heavily manipulating the shake source material. Originally released by Tonehammer in 2009, this library is meant to deeply explore an under-represented niche of percussion and finally allow composers and electronic musicians instant access to truly life-like sound and playability. It's the perfect addition to any serious composer's core instrument arsenal. We also made sure to include a variety of metal percussion, which is the perfect high-pitch compliment to epic percussion scoring.

Shake features custom automation attached to the modwheel and front panel “shaping” knob. The control is context-sensitive for each instrument and articulation type. For the multi-sample shakes, strikes and longer single-shot effects, the control tightens attack and release, allowing you to seamlessly morph between relaxed glisses and pops to sharper, crisper staccato shakes and hits. For the sustaining rolls and grooves, the modwheel/shape control allows you to control tonal intensity and create custom crescendos. All rolls and grooves have release trigger samples. Most instruments also include a front-panel “stepping” control knob, which allows semi-tone pitch adjustment by up to +/- 24 semitones.

The Street Bukit is a deep collection of classic DIY (“Do-It-Yourself”) drumkit sounds that are found in improvised urban street performers’ drum kits. Common to cities around the world, you’ll often find street drummers playing an ecclectic variety of large and small plastic buckets, pots, pans and other scrap and found objects arranged into a rough sort of drum kit. They play with marching or rock drum sticks, jazz brushes, mallets and hands, with specialized technique for producing kick drum sounds - they left the edge of a large bucket with the side of their feet and them stomp or drop it back down in different ways to produce unique lo-fi “bass drum” sounds. As raw a concept as this might seem, skilled street bucket drummers can be profoundly virtuosic, with complex, highly nuanced rhythms, grooves and cadences ranging from drum corps to break-beat to drum n’ bass to industrial and tribal.

The Street Bukit features 5 different buckets and 5 different pots and pans recorded in three ubiquitous urban environments: city street corner, open garage and a small apartment bedroom. We’ve also included our comprehensive FX Rack panel, with multi-effects, compression, EQ, amp/speaker simulation and convolution reverb, featuring dozens of our most popular custom recorded rooms, halls, cathedrals and otherworldly fx impulses easily available right through the interface. We’ve also included a huge selection of real-world environmental ambiences that we recorded in a range of different urban environments to really put you in the middle of it all. And finally, there's a broad selection of custom atmospheres, drones, melodic pads and soundscapes all hand-crafted and manipulated from the raw bucket drum source recordings to give you plenty of textures and accompaniment options, to mix and blend, all in a convenient and intuitive self-contained package.

We designed a powerful custom interface to give you full control over every aspect of the sound, while keeping it easy to jump in and play right out of the bucket. You can load up one of the three main Ensembles (Street, Garage, Bedroom) to have everything at your fingertips, or load up the Solo presets to create your own tuned percussion blends with a pair of flexible articulation mix layers. Or you can use our Megamixer system to build your own custom 8-piece DIY kit and play it live with your keyboard or drum midi controller. Our FX Rack system gives you an elegant and intuitive interface with access to a wide range of effects including Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Dynamics, Drive (featuring 4 different effects), 2 amp sims, 8 cabs, EQ, Filter, tempo-synched Delay and convolution Reverb with lots of our favorite custom impulses.

Our Tablas library is the most comprehensively sampled Tabla sample collection you'll find anywhere. This library contains both looped phrases as well as deeply multi-sampled tablas. The tabla is a popular Indian percussion instrument used in the classical, popular and devotional music of the Indian subcontinent and in Hindustani classical music. The instrument consists of a pair of hand drums of contrasting sizes and timbres. To call tabla a mere percussion instrument would be a vast understatement of its musical depth, as one of the most revered of all classical Indian musical instruments. We worked with tabla master and jazz percussionist Sameer Gupta to capture a range of tabla rhythm, melody and soul. Sameer has been a student and practitioner in the art of percussion for nearly 25 years, traveling the world to study and perform in some of the world's most prestigious institutions and venues.

This library was recorded close and dry, in a medium wood and masonry studio. We covered every classical tabla articulation and a variety of variants and creative alternatives for maximum flexibility. We've also developed custom performance control and pitch stepping functionality, further expanding the musical potential of this library. You'll also find a broad set of special effect and tuned melodic programs and mutations, as well as a mighty set of brand new morphable ambient drone instruments, crafted and sculpted from the heavily manipulated raw source recordings.

The multi-sampled portion of the library contains a staggering 2,333 individual samples. Included are master patches, which incorporate all of the tabla, bāyāñ and combo articulations into a single playable instrument. We've also included separate patches that are specific to each set: tabla, bāyāñ and combo. "Wet" versions for a few of the instruments are also included which incorporate a few of our custom-captured convolution reverb impulses to provide a more lush, ambient feel.

The looped phrases portion of the library contains over 1300 unique phrases. This spans over 2 hours of live tabla phrases exploring traditional and contemporary poly-rhythms and grooves. We recorded close and dry, in wide-stereo and covered a wide range of tempos. The instruments are tuned to Middle C, with key-switch pitch control to allow shifting by up to +/- 7 semitones.

NOTE: This library was originally published by Tonehammer in 2009 as two separate volumes: “Tablas Vol. 1 / Loops” and "Tablas Vol. 2 / Multi". We've combined them into a single unified Tablas library.
