OVERVIEW

Angklung is a full-ranged traditional tuned percussion instrument originating from Indonesia, dating back to roughly the 7th Century AD. Over the past thousand years, it has spread widely throughout Southeast Asia and Polynesia and can be heard in a variety of traditional and modern genres, from gamelan orchestras to pop bands and jazz ensembles.

The Angklung is actually best thought of as a set of several individual single-note instruments, each one comprised of a pair of bamboo tubes in a higher/lower octave pair sounded by a loose rattle. The result is a uniquely full, clear but short-sustaining, dry note. For this massive dedicated Angklung multi-sample library, we've recorded a set of 18 Angklung notes, tuned over a major scale spanning nearly 3 full octaves. We captured them up close in a dry studio and out in a large open hall with 3 mic positions (close, mid, far). We recorded each up and down stroke separately, with 48 round-robin variations per-velocity/per-note for the dry (24 up/24 down) and 16 round-robin variations per-velocity/per-note for the hall samples (8 up/8 down). We also recorded natural hand-played sustaining loops at different speeds and intensities, with smooth dynamic cross-fading between layers and adjustable release samples. And finally, we created a full collection of sustaining pads, ambiences and soundscapes from the raw bamboo angklung recordings that complement the sonic flavor and soul of the library.

Our interface for Kontakt offers a full suite of intuitive sound-shaping controls and professional features to give you complete artistic freedom. You can easily blend and customize sounds to create your own unique instruments with 4 independent sonic layers. Dial in every detail with a full range of deeply customizable options, or leave it stock and start playing right out of the box! You can even roll the dice to randomize settings for instant inspiration.

This library includes a flexible LFO system with tempo sync, assignable shapes and control targets, and a selection of 12 modulatable filter types for shaping motion and tone. Each layer has its own filter, LFO, and ARP systems. The flexible arpeggiator module includes a variety of directions and patterns, and built-in key and scale lock options make it easy to get in the flow and stay in key.

Our interface for Kontakt is rounded-out by our modular FX rack panel, with 27 different DSP effect modules that you can assign in any of the 8 available slots, in any order that you wish.

The Kontakt interface includes a suite of automation-ready sound-shaping controls to give you total creative flexibility. You have control over swell, attack, release, offset, vibrato, filter, pitch (coarse & fine), articulation switching, cross-fading and layering, and so much more.

Sonic possibilities

This library comes with an adaptable LFO system, with selectable LFO shape, modulation target parameter, speed, intensity, tempo-syncing and fade-in time. You can also apply your choice of 12 lowpass, high-pass and FX filters, with assignable modulation targets such as velocity, modwheel, expression, after-touch, key position and step-sequencer table control. Our customizable arpeggiator offers a velocity table and control over arp direction, timing, swing, randomization and duration. We’ve included a key and scale lock system to constrain your notes to common scales and keys for easy melodic composition and live performance.

The interface is rounded-out by our modular FX rack panel, with 27 different DSP effect modules that you can assign in any of 8 available slots, in any order that you wish. You’ll find classic phaser, flanger, delay, distortion, amp and cab simulators, compressors, EQ, rotator and so much more. The Reverb effect includes our favorite convolution reverb impulse responses, including 99 different rooms, halls, chambers and outdoor environments, plus another 40 custom FX impulses to radically transform the sound and open up whole new worlds of musical possibility. We’ve added a great bank of FX rack chain factory presets to get you started!

The Kontakt version of this library requires the full standard retail edition of Kontakt by Native Instruments, engine version 6.6 or higher for VST, VST3, AU, and Pro Tools AAX. The samples in this library are standard 24 bit 48 kHz wave files. They can be used in any audio software or hardware that supports common wav files.

System Requirements

Kontakt 6.6 requires Windows 7 (or higher), or MacOS 10.13 (or higher). The full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt is required to use .nki instrument presets in this library. The free Kontakt Player, Libraries Browser, Native Access integration, and some NKS hardware features are not supported.
A Multi-Core CPU, 8+ GB System Ram, and SSD hard drive are recommended for this library.
