Rhythmic Origins is a comprehensively multi-sampled catalog of UK percussionist David Oliver's globe-spanning collection of rare, specialty, ethnic concert drums and hand percussion instruments. Recorded at Whitehouse Studios in Somerset, England, Bell Music in London, and David's Somerset Studio, this massive library captures 73 different percussion instruments of all shapes and sizes offering a variety of primary and effect articulations. You can custom mix your sound with close and room microphone positions, along with additional mic positions for Bell Music's giant 54 inch Verdi Taiko Drum, David's custom Gran Casa and several African hand drums.

The tonal and dynamic balance for each instrument has been carefully engineered to bring out the full bodied bass, rich tonality and high-end clarity in each sample, from the most subtle hand percussion to thunderous concert bass drum strikes. This library is an extraordinary toolbox as a stand-alone collection and also serves as the perfect companion to David Oliver's Rhythmic Odyssey, our popular multi-track percussion loop, phrase and construction library that features many of the same instruments.

Artist

David Oliver

David Oliver is an esteemed percussionist known for his brilliant and expressive soundtrack work on numerous award winning films and television programs. Working from his studio in Somerset, UK, he has an intuitively inventive approach which first brought him to the attention of multiple award winning composer William Goodchild in 2012. David went on to create rhythm ensemble recordings for William Goodchild's soundtrack to National Geographic wildlife documentary Ultimate Honey Badger. It was a fruitful first collaboration and received the highest number of Nat Geo views in its category in the history of the channel in 2014 (Earth Touch News Network Jan 9 2014).

This was the start of a string of award winning collaborations with Goodchild, notably Africa’s Giant Killers (BBC Natural World 2015) and Jago: A Life Underwater (James Morgan Films, co-Directed by James Reed 2015) - Winner of Jackson Hole Grand Teton Award and Wildscreen Panda Award 2016. Other collaborations of note include working with Emmy award winning composer Barnaby Taylor on the soundtracks for Elephant Family And Me (BBC Natural World - 2016) and Ghost of the Mountain (Disney Nature - 2017). David is an avid rhythmic explorer who has made a number of his own percussion instruments such as UDU, bamboo slit drums, rainsticks and waterdrums. He is a keen proponent of music for well being and regularly performs live. Visit him at www.davidolivermusic.com for more info.

Kontakt Format

This library is designed for the full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt 6.5.3 or later. Kontakt is an industry-standard advanced virtual instrument software platform. You can view screenshots of this library's custom graphical user interface in the image gallery above. This library is packed with features to provide you a wide range of sound shaping parameter controls, each one totally automation-ready in your host environment or Kontakt's stand-alone mode. Learn more about Kontakt by Clicking Here.

This is a standard Kontakt open-format library, so the free Kontakt Player does not fully support it and can only run it in a limited "demo mode". However, the sample directories are unlocked so you can use them in other wav-compatible software, sampler and synth formats. The special Libraries tab doesn't support this open-format Kontakt library, but you can use the standard File browser tab and import this library into the Kontakt Quickload window for easy loading and navigation.
